Britain since the 1930s
Britain since the 1930s is a historical topic which covers life in Britain over the last century.
We begin with life in the 1930s in which we look at the 'Depression Era. We focus on the Jarrow March and life for working people in this decade. Our art work focuses on Art Deco style and we look at the work of Clarice Cliff and produce our own plates in the same style.
We then move onto the 1940s which was of course dominated by World War Two. We learn about the occupation and the effect it had on the everyday lives of people, particularly children, in Britain. We learn about rationing and the evacuation of children from the cities to the countryside. We also read extracts from the Diary of Anne Frank as a first hand experience from a child's point of view.
Our study of the 1950s focuses on the fashion of this period and music as we study the era of rock and roll. We even learn to rock and roll ourselves in our dance lessons!
Finally we move onto the 1970s and the space race.
